2024 FUNduro Series Rules

The FUNduro Series brings enduro mountain bike racing to the best trails and by far THE best mountain bike communities in and around Ohio. Arguably the purest form of mountain bike riding, enduro racing allows racers to pedal out to the stages with other racers similar to a chill ride and then lay down their best effort on timed stages that are added together for a race time. The FUNduro is for the communtiy by the community and all money after expenses go back to the trails through the 501c3 organizations that build and maintain the trails. We put the FUN in Enduro!

Series Format

The 2024 FUNduro Series consists of six races with the racers best four races counting for series points. Series recognition and awards will happen at Horns Hill with the podium celebration after the Horns Hill FUNduro on September 15, 2024. In order for a category to qualify for series awards there must be at least three racers that have done at least three races each in that category.

Courses

The 2024 race courses are The Wilds, Tuscazoar, Star Hill, Devou, Great Seal, and Horns Hill. Courses will be fully marked for pre-riding Saturday and the race is Sunday. We are trying to minimize the impact on other trail users. All courses in 2024 have had FUNduro races before so pre-riding previous courses can give a general idea of what to expect for the course.

E-Bikes

Class 1 E-Bikes will have race categories at all six FUNduro races!

  • Registration

Please register with the SAME name and SAME email address for every race! The points system is automatic but only works if you match! If you see an error in the points calculation, for example you are listed twice please tell us immediately or email [email protected]! Please do not register under a fake name and ask for it to be changed later! No sand bagging! In other words, if you are an expert racer please do not register in novice, etc. Generally speaking there are no refunds, however they may be considered on a case by case basis. Registratoin is online only, and generally closes race day morning. Transfers to other racers or to other categories are allowed up until registration closes which is usually 10:30am race day (except The Wilds, 10:00am bad internet connection!)

    Camping

Primitive camping is allowed at all of the races this year. Some require registraion and a small fee, some do not. The details will be included on the registration page.

    Race Day

Helmets REQUIRED! Carry water, tools, and snacks if you require them on your ride! There is a racer briefing at 10:50am race day. Wristband pass out starts immediately afterwards starting with Expert categories, then Sport, then Novice. You must be registered before check in and you MUST check in and get a wristband also known as a SIAC, wear it on your right wrist, adjust size accordingly, and make sure the tip flashes green every seven seconds...THIS IS HOW YOU ARE TIMED!!! Once you have your wristband you are free to start riding. Some courses must be ridden in order while others are free order. Pay attention to this, please!

    On the Course

One attempt per stage! The Stage Starts and Finishes are marked with signs. Ride to the Stage Start sign, there may be a line. Once you are ready, start from the start sign. Allow the rider in front of you time once they start so you do not catch them generally between 10-30 seconds. We want to avoid passing in the stages if possible. If you catch someone in the stage call out "RIDER", if you hear "RIDER" from behind, you have been caught and you need to allow the racer behind you to pass. If you see a rider down call out to see if they are ok. If they are not please help them and notify race officials or another racer to relay the message immediately! When you see the Stage Finish sign ride straight through and get at least 15 feet away before stopping. Ride to the next stage or race hq if finished.

    Course Cutting

The stages are marked and taped in some areas, where there is not course tape it is to be assumed that the ACTUAL TRAIL is the course and you should stay on it!. Course cutting will result in disqualification. Please stay on the trail! We will not tape every inch of the stage! We may, however place a digital checkpoint in obvious shortcut areas. If we do, we will have the computer automatically disqualify the racers who do not hit that checkpoint. We are here to compete fairly and have fun, if you cheat you are only cheating yourself!

    Wristband Turn in

Do not turn in your wristband until you are finished racing! Failure to turn in your wristband aka SIAC will result in a replacement fee! Results will be scrolling on a TV where you turn in and a QR code on the TV will direct you to online results. Results are Provisional! The protest period will be up until awards. Protests are rare, but if there is a witnessed egregious violation let us know! Until everyone has turned in the results are provisional! The fastest racer may be the last person to turn in! Race podium celebration will start around 3pm. Series podiums will be with the Horns Hill race podiums!

    Podiums

Podium celebration is held once all racers are finished with the course. Generally, the top three racers in a category make a podium. If there are less than three racers in a category there may be a category combination to make a full podium.

    After Turn in

We make every effort to have a food truck on site or the podium celebration at an establishment that sells food. If there are beer sales, the proceeds go to COMBO! Support our sponsors! Be respectful of the trails we are racing on! Many, many hours of hard volunteer work go into making them race ready. Be kind to our hosts! Some of our events are staged from private property, be respectful and carry in, carry out! Be kind to fellow racers! Everyone is here to compete and have a good time! And finally, Have FUN, race enduro, FUNduro!
